Lego Exhibit at Hogle Zoo

The main event--the polar bear!
He is impressive.
Hogle Zoo is featuring a Lego display this summer created by the world's first official "Lego Artist." As you stroll through the exhibits, you'll come across many cool Lego creations scattered around the park. Our favorite was the snake near the elephant exhibit. The main event is clearly the massive polar bear.

Hundreds of thousands of Legos were used to create 2 different kinds of art. Most of the animals are rendered in 3D. These animals include those mentioned above, as well as tamarins, turtles, penguins, frogs and several species of birds. There are also a few mosaics of great apes that make great photo opportunities.

Our favorite--the snake!
Plan a trip to the zoo and check out the Lego exhibits. One word of warning, though. Several sections of the zoo are under renovation. The playground area behind the train (including the train) is closed. The area up the hill behind the primate houses is closed. The area in the far southwest corner near the giraffes is also closed.

The turtles are pretty cool.

We counted 12 tamarins. I was amazed at these monkeys.
Every one of them was in a different position.

These are the mosaic legos for taking photos.

You can also be the orangutan.

  1. what a treasure of a blog!!!!! thanks so much! I have a young son in a wheelchair and have been trying to find places to go that are wheelchair friendly. It would be interesting if you included that in your adventures.
