Rowley's Red Barn

We visited Rowley's Big Red Barn in Santaquin last week. The barn itself is visible on the west side of the freeway, and we've planned to drop in many times. Fall seemed the perfect opportunity.

In the Fall, the Barn hosts a few extra activities for families. When you arrive, park your car and wait by the opening in the gate for a wagon to pick you up for the short ride over to the "playground." The wagon arrives about every 15 minutes, and there weren't enough people there to fill it up, although this might be a possibility on a weekend. When you get on the wagon, you'll get a ticket. As you leave the property on your return trip, you'll pay the entrance fee, plus the cost of any pumpkins you take home at the Big Red Barn.

The wagon ride is short and drops you off where you'll find several fun activities. There is a small maze made out of apple crates, a dirt track with some really cool cars to drive, a big sandbox, a huge pumpkin patch, and another short tractor ride. The highlight is a large slide that rises 30 feet or so.

Our kids had fun on the slide. (So did the adults.) They liked the sandbox and the track, too, although we had to wait around and then fight for a turn at each of them. We also tried the tractor ride, but it just went up around the pumpkin patch. We didn't see anyone else even try it.

We did notice that a lot of people were taking family pictures together. There were lots of great photo-op places at the pumpkin patch, on an old farm truck, or on hay bales. So bring your camera!

Back at the Barn they have ice cream, donuts (they are famous for their pumpkin donuts), and other goodies. Our biggest complaint is that this event seemed pretty expensive. There wasn't a whole lot to do, but our family of 5 paid $20 to get in, plus $10 more for some treats, and we didn't get pumpkins. We had the same amount of fun for free at Jakers Jack-O-Lanterns, and we bought pumpkins from them at a better price, too.
