The Great Stone Face

Today we did a hike far from Utah Valley. This one was way out by Delta, and it was called The Great Stone Face. Apparently, the Pioneers in this area could see the face of Joseph Smith in a rock formation here. Of course, we wanted to check it out.

The hike starts at the end of a dirt road about 15 miles south of Delta. You can see "the Face" from the road, but the hike takes you much closer. It's steep and rocky, and there are some stickers, but the path is well-defined, and leads right to the base of the Face. As we approached, I outlined the face for our boys, ages 4 and 7. They both said they could see the face as it looked off to the south, the nose, the  lips, and the forehead.

When we got up to the foot of the Face, our 4 year old said, "We can't stop here! We have to walk around to the front where we can see the eyes!" He was a little disappointed, I think.

The hike is short, maybe a quarter mile through volcanic rock and briars. Can you see the Great Stone Face?

Check out the picture below...does it look like Joseph Smith's profile?

The hike is pretty steep!
