Mexican Hat

Mexican Hat, Utah
We stopped for lunch in Mexican Hat on a recent trip to the Blanding area. There is a lot to do in this part of the country including Goosenecks State Park, Natural Bridges National Monument, and Fort Bluff, and a short stop at Mexican Hat will fit right in. As you approach town from the north, you can see the delicately balanced rock formation on the left. It is really amazing that such a large rock manages to stay perched precariously atop such a small base. There are some angles where the rock looks dangerously off-center, but our pictures show it looking like a nicely balanced pancake-- or a sombrero balanced atop someone's head.  You can see the Mexican Hat from the road, but there is also a dirt road that lets you drive right up next to it for some great pictures.

Mexican Hat is located on Highway 163, 25 miles west of Bluff, Utah.
