I haven't put something on here forever, so I am going to let you in on our favorite hike. Lots of people seem to know about this hike, but it is never very busy when we go. Maybe we just get lucky. Just east of Pleasant Grove, you can hike right to the base of a small waterfall. It is an easy walk--about 30 minutes. My 4 year old has done it many times. We carry our two year old, but once the kids hit three, they are walking. You walk on a wide gravel road at first, and then next to a small stream. There is a small cave on the left hand side after you cross the stream that my children love to look in, and sometimes sit in. Right after the cave, you hit the steepest part of the trail. This pitch is only about 100 feet or so, and you will hear the waterfall as you climb. On the right hand side close to the top, you will see a small path that heads straight downward. Don't miss it, or you will hike past the waterfall (this waterfall hike is only part of a longer trail that makes a big loop). We can always find it because of a fence post that is falling down. Take this steep little trail down (don't worry, it's not too bad) and you will land right next to the waterfall. On a hot day, it is so nice to arrive and feel the spray from the falls. My kids loves to throw rocks into the water and sometimes wade in, too. We do this hike at least twice a year and it is always a winner.
To find Battlecreek Falls, take 200 S (also called Battle Creek Road) in Pleasant Grove east until it dead ends at the trailhead parking lot. You will see a pavilion with tables--don't cross the bridge over to the tables, instead stay right of the barricades and follow the gravel road up into the canyon. Have fun!
