Hutchings Museum

We dropped by Hutchings Museum in Lehi today. This is a nice little Utah history museum that our boys really enjoyed. There isn't much outside, a tepee and a log cabin you can't go in, but inside there are some interesting displays.

The museum, which is half a block north of Center and Main in Lehi isn't very big. On most days, it isn't particularly interactive, like your new state-of-the-art museums, either. There are a few hands-on exhibits. We liked touching the different rocks and animal skins. They do host a "Night at the Museum" event in the spring, and occasionally, they have bird shows and other events.

The museum is divided into several different rooms. Their is a room with taxidermy animals, skeletons, and a really cool armadillo shell. Another houses various rock samples and has a mining theme. A third is dedicated to pioneer life. There are also rooms for Native American items, Old West items, and Dinosaurs. Kids can even try a turn in the old Lehi jail. A small loft upstairs is dedicated to the military and displays several historical uniforms.

While this museum is small, our boys enjoyed looking at all the displays including an old phonograph and radio. The staff were very friendly and we were lucky enough to be there when one of them was holding a red-tailed hawk that we all got to touch.

The museum costs $4/adult, $3/child, or they have a family rate of $12. A little pricey for such a small place, but we did enjoy our time there. They give a good rate for Cub Scouts to visit, too. For more info check out their website.
