We have not been good hikers this year, but luckily we went camping near an easy hike last weekend. At the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon, we walked around Silver Lake. It is a very simple hike because half of the hike is on a boardwalk. The first time we did this hike we only had a one year old, so we pushed him in the stroller.
On this hike, we saw ducks, fish, and squirrels. (We saw a moose here the last time we did this hike). We were there on a Saturday, which of course is the busiest day to hike, so we also saw a lot of people. Despite the crowds, we still had a great time. It is in a beautiful location--right at the top of the mountains and next to an alpine lake. There are other hikes that branch off from this hike and lead you to other lakes. They are a little more strenuous, but we are thinking about trying them on another trip.
To find this hike, drive about 15 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon. When you get to Brighton ski resort, the road takes you right on a one-way road. Follow it right and the hike leaves from the first parking lot on the right. There is a sign. You can read more here.
We had to run to keep up with the kids on this hike. |
There were lots of great lookout points. |
