Echoes of Christmas

We found a great free activity. In Liberty Park in Salt Lake, a group of volunteers put on a live nativity called Echoes of Christmas. A shepherd leads you through the park and you stop at different stations. At each station someone performs a short song about their perspective of Jesus Christ's birth. There are shepherds, a priest, wise men, the innkeepers, Mary and Joseph, and an angel choir. It was amazing. We really enjoyed the songs and the reverent atmosphere that everyone respected.

We did have to wait in line for about 30 minutes, but it was well worth it. And we had learned our lesson from the Alpine Living Nativity so we were dressed warm--in snow clothes and boots. We went on a Monday night and we tried to make it right at 7:00 when it begins, but ran into some traffic, so we arrived about 7:15 and the crowd was quite large. They take groups of 40 people every 5 minutes so the line moves quickly even if it is very long.

This is the 4th year of this nativity adventure. They usually perform a week or so before Christmas, but there are only a few days. This year it only goes through the 21st, so you'll have to act fast if you want to catch the show.

They have CDs of the songs (unique to this program as far as we could tell) to purchase if you are interested. There is also a donation jar, so you may want to bring a few dollars to throw in because everyone there participates as a volunteer and the show is entirely free. It's very easy to locate. From the I-15, take the 9th South exit and head East. Follow to 600 E and turn right into Liberty Park. Follow the one-way road around the first corner and then you can park in a small parking lot or along the road. You will see people gathering near this parking lot.
